Proposition 64, also known as the Control, Regulate and Tax Adult Use of Marijuana Act or AUMA was passed by California voters on November 8, 2016. Effective November 9, 2016, Prop. 64 legalizes personal use and cultivation of marijuana for adults 21 years of age or older, reduces criminal penalties for certain marijuana-related offenses, and authorizes resentencing or dismissal and sealing of prior, eligible marijuana related convictions. In addition, Prop. 64 includes provisions for the regulation, licensing, and taxation of legal commercial cultivation and sale of marijuana.
